How does Piet Mondrian’s Composition A inspire you?
Known as the father of abstract art, Piet Mondrian is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He pioneered a new style of art that not only remains popular today, but also inspired creators of fashion, music, graphics, and architecture. His original paintings are on display in world-class galleries throughout Europe and the U.S.

How did he become so influential?
Early in his career he conformed to the impressionistic technique of painting as seen in this Dutch landscape. But, he was a deep thinker and passionately pursued spiritual knowledge. As he developed intellectually, his paintings evolved into a breakout movement. In 1917 he established the Neoplastic style which aspired to refine images to their purest forms while balancing the composition. What some people consider just extremely simple paintings, Mondrian considered expressions of profound understanding.
